picnic in the park

Tonight Josh and I decided to do something a little different from the norm. We packed a picnic, loaded Butter in the car, and set off to find a park. We found one not too far away and had a nice time sitting on a blanket and watching Butter sniff every single piece of grass and make friends with all the other dogs walking by.

weirdo pets

I don't know what it is about our pets, but this seems to be their favorite position.

cuteness

Fair warning: You might get sick of posts about my new little doggie. She's like my baby now so be prepared to see pictures, videos, and retellings of the cute things she does, and, maybe even the not so cute. But really, you can't possibly look at this face and have at least a little part of your heart melt!

This is Butter's stuffed bunny. She loves to chew on it and carry it around with her. When she came here a week ago, the bunny still had most of his appendages intact. It was just missing a leg.

This is the bunny now. I think she might need a new one soon.

Butter wakes me up promptly at 5:30 every morning. Our new routine is to take her out to the bathroom, then take her for a 10 minute walk. Well, BB, or Before Butter, Saturday was always my sleep in day. The day that I can sleep in a glorious 2 hours later than normal. So, deciding that things should be no different just because we have a dog now, I got up at 5:30, took her out to the bathroom, then put her in the upstairs bedroom that we've sort of dubbed "Butter's Room" during the day when we have to leave her alone. I thought, just two more hours of sleep, then I'll take her out. Those two extra hours of sleep were wonderful. The state of the bedroom at the end of those two hours, however, was not. Let's just say, I'm glad we're getting new carpet anyway, glad Butter seems to be healthy and her bodily functions working properly, and glad she tired of gnawing on wood after two small corners. I've learned my lesson. As wonderful as those extra hours were, I will gladly give them up to keep Butter good and exercised! This is her after our long walk tonight!

butter's tricks

We are trying to teach Butter various commands. She already knew "sit" when she came to live with us. Since we got her, one week ago today, she has also learned "lay" and "roll over". Check it out! =)

new family member

Meet....BUTTER!!!

We adopted Butter last Saturday from a family that was moving and couldn't take her with them. She is a Boxer mix. I think she might have some Retriever in her. She is so sweet, so good-natured, and so eager to please. She already knew how to sit, and we have now taught her to lay. We are working on roll over but that one is having a hard time sticking.

She loves to give hugs.

Her and Yahtzee weren't too sure of each other at first.

But they are quickly becoming friends.

This is one of her favorite toys. It's a stuffed bunny with both ears and legs torn off. She loves to chew on it and carry it around everywhere.

We try to take her on two walks a day. In the morning I take her out for about 15 minutes and then after dinner we take her for a good half hour. If we don't get the long walk in, she is a little antsy. When we do get the walk in, she usually looks like this.

Since Josh and I both work full time we didn't want to leave Butter in her kennel all day, but didn't want her to roam free in the house either. So, we gave her one of the upstairs bedrooms. I threw a sheet over this futon and I think it's a winner. When I came home yesterday she didn't even hear me come in the room b/c she was sound asleep!

Who would have thought a dog could be so much fun. They are a lot of work, but I think worth it. Especially if you are lucky enough to get one as sweet as our Butter!! =)

a little unbalanced...

The other night, just a day or two after we got back from vacation (an update on that soon), I looked over at my feline friend and noticed something...

Do you see it? I had to do a double take.

Notice anything different? Let's get closer...

See it yet? Try comparing the left side of his face to his right.

He's missing his left eyebrow whiskers! I don't know what went on here while we were gone but he must have done one heckova clean up job!

reality check

My cat. His name is Yahtzee. He is very unique. While he does have some cat-like qualities, he has many quirky things about him that just sort of make me slip over to the crazy side and think, Maybe he's part human! Here, let me show you....

He likes to hang out.

Sometimes hanging out is exhausting.

He helps with laundry.

He watches TV.

He folds the sheets.

He likes to cuddle.

He likes to cuddle while napping.

More chillin out. He likes to be draped over the couch.

He takes family portraits.

He likes camping.

He wears ties.

He plays hide and seek.

He sleeps on his back.

He looks at magazines (he says he likes them for the articles).

He plays the piano.

He plays bass.

And THEN, right on the tail end of that thought, Maybe he is part human! He does something like THIS

and I am reminded that he is, absolutely, positively, completely and totally all CAT!
