cake pop attempt number one

Well, here they are! The perfectionist in me really doesn't like them, but they DID taste quite good if I do say so myself! We happened to be going to a family dinner the night I made these so I took them along. I was a little strapped for time so my awesome sister in law helped me by writing the messages on them. I made the blue and pink ones and took them to the dinner. Then I made the purple ones after we got back home. I had trouble with the blue and pink ones cracking. I think maybe the purple ones fared a little better due to the fact they were in the fridge firming up before dipping a lot longer than the blue and pink ones were. Overall I think it was a good first try. It will be fun when I am a pro of sorts and don't have to set aside an entire day to make them and am completely happy with the end result! Here's to future better looking but just as yummy cake pops!!

the time is here

The time is here, the time is now. Well, the time is actually in a day or two but "now" sounded better literately speaking. Do you ever make up a word, then look it up to find that it actually is a word? That's what happened with "literately" just now. Anyhoo, what was I talking about? Oh yes. I am finally going to try my first cake pops! JP and I loaded up the little people in the car tonight after dinner and made a really quick trip to Michaels so I could use a couple 50% coupons to get the rest of what I need for the project. I would like to interject here that I love, love, LOVE Michaels! It's my favorite store E.V.E.R. But I digress. I would also like to interject that I love using that phrase, "but I digress"...okay I'm done now. Promise. So what have I chosen for my first pops, you say? Well let me tell you. I know Valentine's Day is technically over, but JP's sisters and parents are coming into town at the end of the week, so I thought I would drag out the holiday and go with the love theme. THIS is what I will be attempting...

I picked this one because they are cute, yet seem like they are easy enough to pull off on the first try. We shall see if I am right!

things i've learned

Here are some things I've learned in the past 7 weeks of being a mom of two. Some I am sure you can identify with if you have kids, and some may be specific to my own little people.

*Sleep is a luxury, and my oh my how I love it!

*Smart time management is critical, for mine and also the entire family's sanity.

*If cleanliness is next to godliness then I sure am glad God loves the ungodly!

*Not giving Daisy a bath immediately following dinner is key...unless I find that I really enjoy scrubbing out the tub on every bath night.

*I should not leave the lunch fixin's out on the counter because frankly, thinking "I'll be right back to get seconds" is no more than a joke.

*Getting "firsts" on meals is an accomplishment.

*There really is a whole lot you can do while nursing. I'll just leave that one at that.

*It really is true that half the stuff you say you'll never do when you have kids suddenly becomes not so taboo.

*Oh, how I appreciate my husband more and more! I could not do this without him!

*Your pets really do become "just pets" after you have kids. And their status drops lower and lower with each new addition.

*While a clean house still enables me to relax and breathe easier, I find it's a little less important most days.

And the number one thing is something I have not necessarily learned recently but is something that has just been reinforced....I was BORN to do this! I don't say that because I think I'm the cat's pajamas when it comes to being a stay at home mom. I say it because I am finally happy and fulfilled with what I am doing! There was a time when I didn't think becoming a mother was going to happen for me. I was devastated. But by the grace of God all of that changed! I love being a momma, and I will be one for the rest of my life!

too many projects!

The problem with this amazing internet thing is that I have access to so many amazing creative minds and I'm constantly finding projects that I don't have time to try! Just saw this cake that I would love to try my hand at!

because i can!

I told myself, "we don't need any cake around here" (very true), "I don't really feel like baking" (not true), "I probably don't have all the right ingredients" (also not true). In the end, I lost this crazy argument with myself and made this concoction of chocolaty, peanut buttery goodness. I've been reading a lot of baking blogs lately, and I think it sort of got into my system and I just had to make this cake today. Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. My favorite. My mouth is watering right now because I'm thinking about it and I haven't had a piece of it yet. You ask pretty much anyone in my family what their favorite kind of cake is and they will say chocolate with peanut butter icing. I don't know how we all got the same gene that adores this particular kind of cake, but I do know that when I eat it I completely forget about any particular diet that I just might be on at the moment. It's that good.

On the baking note, my new favorite blog is this one. I posted a link to Bakerella's book the other day. I've since been reading her blog and I find it interesting. I am thinking of trying my hand at the cake pops this weekend. I saw this idea and thought I would try it out in honor of the superbowl. This is kind of funny since I have a complete disinterest in the sport. It does make some good background noise for a nap, though, on the rare occasion that I take one.

So back to the baking thing, I also added to my reader this blog which was recommended by Bakerella. I haven't had much of a chance to read it yet but I'm looking forward to it!
